Kitui, Wednesday 31 January

The Mutonguni Ward representative to the County Assembly, Hon David Baridi Mbevo has lost his seat this afternoon, after the Kitui Magistrates Court nulified his election win.
This came as a shock to the first-time Member of Kitui County Assembly, whose victory was challenged by his rival Musee Mati in a petition filed after the August 8 elections last year. Mr Mati had petitioned the win on the grounds that though he had most votes, the IEBC awarded the certificate to Mbevo, who came second.
The Kitui Magistrates Court this afternoon revoked Mbevo’s win and declared Mr Musee Mati as the duly elected Mutonguni Ward MCA.
In another court rulling today in the Kitui High Court, the Chief Magistrate trashed a petition by the former Mwingi North MP hon. Munuve, and upheld the victory of Hon. Nzengu as the duly elected Mwingi North Member of Parliament. Hon. Munuve has further been ordered to pay 2 million for the expenses of the case.
