The Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu will not be gracing the Miss Kitui County Beauty Pegeant event today as expected earlier. Several powerful leaders and senior county officials will not be present too, investigations have revealed.
This comes at a time when a large faction of the public and media are shying away from the event over fears of a toxic Bio-hazard threat possed by the asbestos stored in the same Stadium hosting the event.
The Kitui County government and the Ministry of Tourism have resulted to desperate last minute measures to convince the public to attend the otherwise largely snubbed event by deploying vehicles with loud speakers around the town urging the public to attend the event.
One hour past the expected kick off time, the stadium is still sparsely occupied, with most of the public opting to follow from a safe distance across the fence.
Insider information has revealed that there’s a big tussle with the Kitui Central local leaders accusing the Minister for Tourism Mr Patrick Koki Musau of not involving the local leaders and youth in the county event. The minister is currently locked up in a meeting with the participants and judges, after what is seemingly their reluctance to attend the event over bio-hazard fears.
