Travellers and residents cross the Ndyanyu river on foot.

Residents of Kitui West and Matinyani sub-counties are deeply saddened by the county government’s slow response to the repair of a bridge which was washed away weeks ago from one of their main roads.
The Ndianyu river surface bridge, which lies between Kakumuti and Kyaani shopping centres on the Matinyani-Muthale murram road, has been lying unattended for weeks since it was washed away by flood waters at the beginning of this rain season.
This has greatly inconvenienced the locals of Mutonguni,Musengo,Kyaani, and Matinyani areas, since this road serves as their main business connection. Transport has also been hampered with the popular public service vehicles shunning that route. Bodaboda operators are also limited to working only during the rain recess periods, owing to the river’s history of washing away motorbikes and vehicles when it rains.
The residents are now calling upon their elected leaders to intercede on their behalf to the county government for quick settlement of the matter.
This comes at a time when several road projects from the previous county regime are being subjected to massive public criticism for the poor and unsatisfactory contractors’ quality of work.
